How we can heal ourselves and the Earth and have a great time as we do it.
The Re-Generation is my love letter to the power of the Earth and the human spirit.
I was in year 10 science class when my world fell apart. We watched the climate documentary ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and I discovered human civilisation was on track to destroy the systems that keep us alive and I was studying for a future that wouldn’t exist.
And this made no sense to me. What intelligent species would destroy their only home and planet? Surely it doesn’t have to be like this.
So I set out on a great quest to figure out what was going on and what we can do about it. This led me through four university degrees, hundreds of books and deep dives into fields from politics, philosophy, permaculture, paganism and psychology.
From this search I discovered the root cause of our issues is we have been born into a prison for our minds that tricks us into hurting ourselves and thinking that we like it, we choose it and there is no other way.
The System disconnects us from ourselves, each other and the earth. It denies our fundamental human needs for things like love, connection, rest, meaning and creative expression.
This all feels terrible and makes us have to numb ourselves just to get through the day. It then offers us false addictive substitutes for the things we’re really craving.
This system and way of thinking hurts us all, even those seemingly benefitting.
So many social and environmental networks are perpetuating the very same systems they claim to oppose.
Division is poison to the human spirit. The moment we start seeing others as different and less deserving of respect than us all our troubles start. We have to move beyond this if we are to survive as a species. Offering understanding to those we disagree with is the courage of this age.
Hurt people hurt people. It’s nobody’s fault we got born into a toxic system designed to bring out the worst of us. Unconditional kindness is the strategy for lasting peace.
The good news about things feeling so terrible it is makes it easy to detect when the System is operating and choose a different course.
All the stress, sickness and sadness we’re experiencing is our natural intelligence letting us know something has gone wrong and trying to guide us back on track.
Our ticket to freedom is learning to notice the difference between fake pleasure and real pleasure and choosing as much of the good stuff as we can. Fake pleasure comes with unpleasant side effects, while true pleasure brings only nourishment.
For example, eating lollies that feel good in the moment then make your stomach ache.
There is no judgment or blame or shame in this. It’s just a gentle process of noticing how things feel for you as an organism.
And the great news is love is the most delicious pleasure of them all. It feels good to love ourselves, each other and the Earth. It feels good to use our gifts in service to the community. It’s what we were born to do.
The path to personal and planetary healing is one of joy.
Looking at the state of the environment it’s easy to fall into a pit of despair.
However, don’t underestimate the tenacity, creativity and intelligence of this amazing planet.
96% of species got wiped out in the Permian-Triassic extinction event and life managed to bounce back better than ever. Through every cataclysm this living planet has found a way to go on.
Life wants to live. Given half a chance nature will bounce back. Humans working in harmony with nature can work miracles and they’re already happening all around the world.
We hold the creative intelligence that makes the flowers bloom and the birds fly in every cell.
We can heal and the Earth can heal. It’s not too late.
The Re-Generation comes from the idea that this isn’t generation X or Y or Z. This is the Re-Generation, the generation to stop the hurting and start the healing.
The Re-Generation is my devotion to spreading the good word. It is a space for people to come together as we love this world back to life.
I’m just giving a common name to all the waves of regeneration already happening across the globe.
